Four Avenues of Service - Vocational Service

Vocational Service focuses on:

  • Adherence to, and promotion of the highest ethical standards in all occupations, including fair treatment of employees, employers, associates, competitors, and the public.
  • Recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, not just your own or those pursued by Rotarians.
  • The contribution of vocational talent in solving problems of society and meeting the needs of the community.

During October, Rotarians are encouraged to focus on this essential element of Rotary. Discussions on Vocational Service lead to projects that not only develop the ethical consciousness and vocational skills of Rotarians, but also talents within the community.  October is the month to begin our year long Vocational Service activities ranging from Rotary discussions to awards for community projects. C lub members are asked to re-examine the second Avenue of Service, including the Four-Way Test and the declaration of Rotarians in Business and the Professions.

Year Long activities of the Rotary Club of Millbrae include:

  • Business of the Year (January) - A collaborative program with the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce to select and recognize an outstanding business.
  • Day of the Teacher (April) - An outstanding teacher from each school in Millbrae is selected by their principal, and recognized individually at a club luncheon meeting.
  • Project Read (November) - A competition and fundraising dinner on trivial pursuit.  All proceeds benefit literacy programs.
  • Regional Occupational Progress (October) -  This program provides scholarships to students involved in the occupational training program.
